A Life Shrouded in Darkness

For 17 years, Jane endured a life overshadowed by violence and abuse. Each day, she faced hostility that plunged her into despair and grief, often leaving her to spend nights tending to bruises instead of warmly embracing her children. Her husband’s rage was a storm that ripped through their home, leaving behind a trail of fear. She became a shadow silenced by shame with her spirit buckling under the weight of survival.

The Breaking Point

One fateful day, all hell broke loose. Her husband destroyed their home, sold their livestock, and brought her down to the knees by sending their children away. Jane wandered what her life had become, clutching to a photo of her daughter, unaware that an even a darker news awaited. Her precious child had suffered unspeakable abuse at the hands of a relative. Desperate, she sought help, only to be met with slammed doors and fresh violence. The world had turned its back.

The Gift of Grace

Then, a lifeline arrived. Her aunt arrived with a whisper of hope, encouraging her to join the Skilful Parenting Program. Anxious but hopeful, Jane stepped into a circle of strangers, which began her journey towards a life free from violence and abuse.
Here, tears were met not with judgment, but with open arms. Women like her, scarred yet unbroken, shared stories of reclaiming their lives. Through workshops on healing and empowerment, Jane learned to breathe again.

The Long Road Home: Mending the Unthinkable

Reconciliation seemed impossible, a mountain too steep to climb. Yet, as Jane’s strength grew, so did her determination to mend her family.  Confronted with the resilient woman he had once tried to break, her husband began to yield. Together, they found common ground in therapy sessions and parenting workshops.

Gradually, the man who once resorted to violence started assisting their children with homework, marking the dawn of a transformed family dynamic. Their once-broken family has found healing, and as a symbol of their new beginning, they have welcomed a baby boy. Jane has also regained her independence, becoming a successful fruit farmer in Kisumu West.
