Ending Violence in and around Schools

Safe spaces to learn, inside and beyond the school gates

Every child has the right to feel safe on the path to learning—but for millions across Africa, the journey to and from school is filled with risk. From corporal punishment and peer bullying inside classrooms, to harassment, exploitation, and abuse around school environments, violence is cutting futures short. This project works to end violence in and around schools, creating safe, supportive spaces where learning can truly flourish. When children, families, schools, and communities come together, safety is no longer a privilege—it becomes a promise.

Our Approach

We tackle school-related violence holistically, focusing on both physical environments and the systems that surround children. Our multi-level approach includes:

Empowering Children to know their rights, acquire life skills report abuse, and co-lead solutions

Training School Leaders, Teachers, and School Staff in non-violent discipline, child development, and child protection

Parental Engagement to strengthen caregiving, build trust, and support children’s learning

Mapping Child Protection Hotspots on school routes to identify risks and target interventions

Strengthening Community Protection Mechanisms through local leadership and structures

Forging Collaboration between schools, government bodies, and community safety actors to respond effectively to threats

Gender-Transformative Interventions Focusing on the unique vulnerabilities of girls, addressing barriers to their education and participation

Because a safe school means more than just a safe classroom—it means a safe journey, a safe home, and a safe community.
