Ending Violence against Children

When rights of children get violated, children and parents need to have access to services that intervene and provide assistance. ICS-SP supports the provision of these services through strengthening child protection systems at national and local level. This is through building the capacity of service providers on their roles and ensuring that child protection services are professional and adapted to the specific context and culture. Our actions tap into existing legal protection frameworks and structures for ending violence against children.

Our goal is to ensure that all children and their families have access to and make critical use of quality preventive and responsive child wellbeing services.

Our strategy: Violence Prevention and Response
Parents have the responsibility to provide care and protection to their children. When rights of children are violated, children and parents need to have access to services that intervene and provide assistance. The complex nature of child abuse, neglect and exploitation requires various actors to work together to provide quality, child friendly and sustainable preventive and responsive services for children. The government has the main responsibility to coordinate provision, access and delivery of these services. ICS-SP supports the provision of these services through establishing and/or strengthening child protection systems at national and local level.

Organizing and facilitating government coordination
The government is ultimately responsible for the provision of quality child protection services. ICS-SP facilitates and strengthens government role of coordinating formal and informal child protection and related services.

Facilitating quality child protection services
To be able to carry out their job effectively, child protection service providers need to have the right attitude, knowledge, skills and financial resources for prevention, early detection and response to violence. In partnership with relevant government departments, and national NGOs, ICS-SP supports children services to reach a standardized quality through building the capacity of various actors and facilitating the development of operational and service guidelines for actors in the child protection system.

Prevention of child rights violations through Skilful Parenting
ICS-SP believes that parents need to feel the “power to parent” so as to influence the future of their children in a positive way. By working with parents on how to become better parents, Skilful Parenting contributes to the prevention of child abuse, neglect and family disintegration.

Children as actors in their own protection
Children need to understand their rights and responsibilities to be able to protect themselves from abuse and neglect. Rights cease to have meaning if children lack the skills and knowledge required to actualize them. ICS-SP invests in empowering children and their organizations.

Sustainable child protection services
Child protection and related services need to be financially sustainable in the longer term. ICS-SP is researching on possibilities to ensure this through social business, public private partnerships and insurance schemes.

Collaborative lobbying and advocacy
We invest in giving children and families a voice, building evidence from practice and enhancing civil society lobby capabilities to facilitate the progressive implementation of violence prevention and response interventions. ICS-SP adopts a cooperative and collaborative approach to lobbying decision and policymakers.
